MPM Summer Intensive Writing Program      

Course Descriptions

Kinder ~ Letter Identification;   Printing and Dictation; Short Vowel Blending
Students will prepare themselves for kindergarten by basic letter identification, printing, dictation, and blending short vowels.  

Grade 1 ~ Aesop’s Fables (Weeks 1-10)
Students will read select Aesop fables, imitate the writing, and create their own fable using strategies and techniques similar to the famous Greek storyteller. Students will learn new descriptive words and apply them in their writing to help them write with greater clarity and sophistication.   

Grade 2 ~ Aesop’s Fables (Weeks 1-10)
 Students will read select Aesop fables, imitate the writing, and create their own fable using strategies and techniques similar to the famous Greek storyteller.  Students will learn new descriptive words and apply them in their writing to help them write with greater clarity and sophistication.   

Grade 3 ~ Aesop’s Fables (Weeks 1-5)Fairy Tales (Weeks 6-10)
Students will read select Aesop fables and fairy tales, imitate the writing, and create original fables and fairy tales using strategies and techniques similar to the great writers they studied.   Students will learn new descriptive words and apply them in their writing to help them write with greater clarity and sophistication.   

Grade 4 ~ Aesop’s Fables (Weeks 1-2)Fairy Tales (Weeks 3-4) Myths (Weeks 5-10) Students enrolled in the full ten week course will read select Aesop fables, fairy tales, and myths.  Students will reproduce these stories via imitation writing and will produce original works using the same strategies and techniques that they studied.  Students will learn new descriptive words and apply them in their writing to help them write with greater clarity and sophistication.   

Grade 5 ~ Fairy Tales (Weeks 1-2) Myths (Weeks 3-5) Greek Heroes (Weeks 6-8) Medieval Legends (Weeks 10)

Speech ~ 
Students enrolled in the 6 week program in grade 4 and up will learn speech skills -voice quality, articulation, tone, eye contact, energy, stance & presentation, speech form and speech writing. Being able to put their ideas into words, they will not afraid of public speaking.

Drama ~ 
Students enrolled in the 6 week program in grade 4 and up will explore the exciting world of the creating arts. They learn, principles of acting, theatre, movement, improvisation, audition skills, scene work and final performance.
